Game Recap: Baseball |

Lourdes Sweeps Point Park to Run Win Streak to Four

Kolby Rogge (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) tossed a complete game seven-hitter in game one and Gabe Scott (Curtis, Ohio/Genoa H.S.) had four hits in game two, including a walk-off single, as Lourdes swept a doubleheader from Point Park 2-1 and 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

"This was two great team wins," head coach Josh Bradford said afterwards.  "Koby was really good in game one.  Game two was a great back-and-forth college baseball game.  We got some huge hits in the last couple of innings that allowed us to come out on top."

Rogge was the story in the opener, striking out nine while walking just one for his first complete game victory (2-0) since 2017.

The Gray Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the third as Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) doubled and took advantage of a pair of wild pitches to score the game's first run.

Lourdes added what proved to be a key insurance tally in the sixth as Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.), who went 3-for-3 in the game, led off with a double and scored on Joey Oehlers' (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) RBI single up the middle through a drawn in infield.

Point Park plated one on an infield single in the top of the seventh, but Rogge ended the game with a strikeout looking, stranding two runners on base.

In game two, Point Park (8-6) led off the game with a home run, but the Gray Wolves answered in the bottom of the frame.  Denman hit his second round-tripper of the season to tie the game, leading off the bottom of the first.  The Gray Wolves plated five in the opening inning, taking advantage of three Pioneer errors which led to three unearned runs.  Cord Noble (Rockford, Mich./Rockford H.S.) had a two-run single in the inning.

After the Pioneers scored twice in the top of the second, Oehlers delivered a run-scoring double in the bottom of the inning before a double steal in the third allowed Noble to swipe home, giving Lourdes a 7-3 lead.

The visitors tied the game at seven after plating three in the fourth and one in the fifth before Childress launched his fourth home run of the season leading off the sixth to give the Gray Wolves a one-run advantage.  The Pioneers tied the game with a single with two outs in the seventh that scored an unearned run, setting the stage for the bottom of the seventh.

Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Scott, who singled into left for his fourth hit of the game, scoring Devin Rooks (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.), who had a walk-off hit himself just one week prior.

Zach Brown (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) earned the win (2-0), allowing the unearned run and two hits while striking out two pitching the seventh inning in relief.

Lourdes (4-3) will remain home on Friday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves host Indiana-South Bend.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
