Lourdes finished the preliminary round of action in 10
th place on Friday evening, midway through the 2021 NAIA Cheer National Championship held inside of Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa.
The Gray Wolves posted a preliminary round score of 80.27, which accounts for 25% of the team's overall total. Lourdes did not have a single dedutcion on the night.
"I am extremely proud of our performance today," head coach
Chelsea Leis said afterwards. "The energy and execution that the team displayed was everything I had hoped we would pull off for our final competition. Hitting a zero-deduction routine at nationals is all I could ask for. We will go into tomorrow with the same energy and heart and hope it is enough to move up in the standings."
Oklahoma City leads the completion with an opening round score of 90.25 while event host Saint Ambrose is second after posting a score of 90.13. Indiana Wesleyan and Missouri Valley are tied for third with 88.62 points each. Georgetown (Ky.) is ninth with 81.05 points, less than a point in front of the Gray Wolves while Mobile is one-point behind Lourdes in 11
th place at 79.27. There are 12 total schools in the field.
Lourdes will return to the mat on Saturday afternoon inside of Lee Lohman Arena. Action begins at 1:40 p.m. EST.
