Lourdes Drops a Pair at Indiana-South Bend

Lourdes closed out its home-and-home series with Indiana-South Bend on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Titans 7-0 and 15-6 at Rex Weade Stadium in Granger, Ind.

The Titans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning of game one, batting around to score five times.  Indiana-South Bend added single runs in the second and third and took advantage of eight Lourdes walks in the game.

Spencer Rader (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) came on in relief in the second inning and tossed 4.2 innings of two-hit baseball, allowing just one run and striking out three for the Gray Wolves to give the Lourdes offense a chance.

The Gray Wolves managed just three hits in the game against Robbie Berger, who struck out two and walked three in the complete game shutout.

Indiana-South Bend (4-10) jumped out quick again in game two, plating four runs in the first and three more in the second to build a 7-0 lead.  Lourdes took advantage of a couple of throwing errors in the third to score three times.

The Gray Wolves added to the comeback effort in the fifth.  Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) homered and Bryce Gargus (South Haven, Mich./South Haven H.S.) added a two-run double to pull Lourdes within one, 7-6.

The Titans broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring eight times, taking advantage of Lourdes errors.  The Gray Wolves had four miscues in the game.

Gargus and Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) each had two hits in game two for Lourdes.

Lourdes (5-6) will return home on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Cincinnati-Clermont.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Mercy Field.
