Tenth-ranked Lourdes won its sixth consecutive match and remained undefeated at home this season with a 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Siena Heights inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"This was a good win for us after not playing for 11 days," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We need to fix a few errors to continue to put pressure on teams."
The opening set had 10 ties and seven lead changes before the Saints scored four consecutive points to take a 21-18 on the way to winning the opening set. The Gray Wolves never trailed in set two, building a 17-10 lead on the way to evening the match.
The Gray Wolves took the lead 9-6 in set three and slowly increased its advantage to as many as five on the way to the victory. In the fourth, Lourdes held the Saints to just seven kills and a -.069 hitting percentage before closing the match on a 5-1 run.
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 kills and 14 digs while
Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco) added 12 kills.
Ian Fields (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) led the offense which hit .223 on the night, handing out 44 assists while adding 10 digs defensively.
Guga Heidrich (Braco do Norte, Brazil/Colegio Unificado) had a team-high 18 digs.
Max Petuhov (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real H.S.) registered five blocks.
Bryce Johnson led Siena Heights (7-5, 3-4 WHAC) with 13 kills while Joudiel Poveymirow tallied 19 digs.
Lourdes (10-1, 8-1) will head to 15
th-ranked Goshen on Saturday afternoon. First serve against the Maple Leafs is set for 3 p.m. inside of Gunden Gymnasium in Goshen, Ind.
