Lourdes snapped its four-match losing streak on Tuesday evening with a 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22 victory over Siena Heights inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"We had some of our best hitting efficiencies we have had all season tonight," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the match. "Our serve improved as the match went along as well. It was a great win for us to bounce back after a few tough losses in a row."
The Gray Wolves trailed nearly the entire opening set before four straight points late in the set put the hosts in front for the first time 20-19. Lourdes was then able to side out the remainder of the set before a final kill from
Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) gave the hosts the victory.
Lourdes never trailed in set two, running out to a 17-9 lead before withstanding a late run by the Saints to build a 2-0 lead in the match. The Gray Wolves hit .348 in the stanza, their best offensive set of the night.
Siena Heights (7-6, 7-6 WHAC) responded in the third, building a 10-3 lead, and never looked back in extending the match. In the fourth, Lourdes again had to rally late. Trailing 22-20, the Gray Wolves scored the final five points to secure the match.
McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 18 kills and hit .289 while also tallying 12 digs defensively.
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) added 12 kills while
Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) swung at a .412 clip with eight kills and four blocks.
Megan Vayansky (Pickerington, Ohio/North H.S.) handed out 35 assists and registered 13 digs while leading an offense that hit .220 for the match.
Quinn Yondo (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central H.S.) registered 13 digs.
Janel Ruhlman led Siena Heights with 20 kills and hit .364 while Payton Osborne had 22 digs.
Lourdes (4-10, 4-9) will take to the road on Friday evening, traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich. to battle Concordia (Mich.). First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of Cardinal Fieldhouse.
