Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The 2021 regular season comes to a close this week, and with it the quest for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship for the Gray Wolves. Lourdes battles ninth-ranked Indiana Tech for the league title on Tuesday night before heading to Aquinas to close the regular season on Saturday.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 188-69 (.732) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first nine seasons at Lourdes, including the WHAC Coach of the Year in 2018. He is the only head coach in program history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Indiana Tech have split their two previous meetings in a series that began Jan. 25, 2020. The Warriors won the first contest this season in four sets on Feb. 9 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Indiana Tech will be making their first trip ever to Sylvania on Tuesday. The Gray Wolves are 5-1 all-time against Aquinas in a series that began March 1, 2019. The Gray Wolves swept the Saints in straight sets on March 5 in this season's first meeting. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against the Saints in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes downed Siena Heights 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 on Tuesday (March 16) behind 18 kills and 14 digs from
Jeff Lam. The Gray Wolves swept 15th-ranked Goshen on the road Saturday (March 20) 25-22, 25-21, 25-14. Lam tallied 15 kills and hit .480 in the victory.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won back-to-back matches after sweeping Cornerstone on Saturday. Daynte Stewart leads Indiana Tech with 208 kills and is hitting .277 while Brandon Jones has handed out 426 assists. Stewart also has registered a team-high 25 service aces. Defensively, Joey Hermes has recorded 214 digs while Chase Christiansen has 57 blocks, including 20 of the solo variety.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have dropped seven of their last eight matches after falling to Mount Vernon Nazarene in four sets on Saturday. Aquinas heads to Siena Heights on Tuesday before hosting Lourdes. Julian Armendano has posted a team-leading 211 kills and is hitting .271 while Leo-Paul Rousseau has handed out 240 assists. Armendano also leads Aquinas with 17 service aces this year. Defensively, Josh Evers has a team-leading 99 digs while Daniel Littleton has registered 41 blocks.
WHAC Honors Keep Coming: Lourdes tallied two more WHAC honors this week following the wins over Siena Heights and Goshen.
Jeff Lam was named the WHAC Attacker of the Week after averaging 4.71 kills per set while hitting .319. He also recorded 2.57 digs per set on his way to his fourth accolade of the year.
Ian Fields was named the WHAC Setter of the Week for the third time this year after handing out 11.14 assists per set and adding 2.14 digs per set. He led a Gray Wolf offense that hit .277 as a team in the two contests.

Battle for the WHAC Title: Lourdes has assured itself a spot in the WHAC tournament that will be held April 2-3 at the site of the regular season champion. The Gray Wolves enter the final two matches tied with Indiana Tech for the top spot in the standings. An Indiana Tech win will assure the Warriors of hosting the tournament and the top seed as they would have swept the Gray Wolves. A Lourdes win coupled with a victory at Aquinas would give Lourdes the top spot.
Facing Another Ranked Foe: Lourdes is 3-1 against NAIA Top-15 opponents this season and will face another on Tuesday when the Gray Wolves battle ninth-ranked Indiana Tech. Lourdes defeated #13 and #15 Goshen and #9 Saint Xavier earlier this season while falling to 10th-ranked Indiana Tech.
Leading the NAIA: Jeff Lam leads all NAIA player averaging 0.89 service aces per set this season. The Gray Wolf senior has recorded 34 aces in the 38 sets he has played this year. As a team, Lourdes leads the entire NAIA averaging 12.45 digs per set this season.
Guga Heidrich is second nationally recording 3.84 digs per set individually.
Setting a New School Record: Jeff Lam set a new program record for service aces earlier this season. He currently has 110 aces after passing his former teammate,
Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who tallied 87 during his four years at Lourdes.
On the Assist Charts: Henrique Gehrke has set the school's career assist mark with 2,548 helpers over his four years. Gehrke has 266 assists more than current assistant coach
Ryan Ferkel (2014-2017), who is second on the list. In addition,
Ian Fields has moved into third on that same list with 1,205 during his time in a Lourdes uniform.
Record Watch: Jeff Lam and
Ricardo Gehrke rank third and fourth respectively in career kills. Lam currently has 921 kills while Gehrke has 779 kills during his stay at Lourdes. Gehrke just surpassed Nick DiMarco's (2012-2013) total of 753. Lam is 81 kills behind second place
Frank Craig (2012-2015), who graduated with 1,002 kills.
This and That: The Gray Wolves are holding the opposition to just .126 hitting on the season ... Lourdes has won 11 straight matches at home in the Ebeid Rec Center and is 33-8 all-time on its home court ...
