Lourdes Rally Falls Short Against Indiana Tech

After dropping the first two sets, Lourdes won set three and battled in the fourth before suffering a 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 setback to Indiana Tech on Tuesday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We didn't play well enough to be a team above us in the standings tonight," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We had signs of being able to compete, but it was not enough to win the match.  We needed to play at our best and we didn't."

Lourdes kept the first set close, and trailed just 17-15, when the Warriors scored seven of the next eight points to pull away.  The Gray Wolves railed 20-13 in set two before Quinn Yondo (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central H.S.) served up a 5-0 run to pull the Gray Wolves within two.  Lourdes eventually tied the set at 22 but was unable to take the lead as the Warriors built a 2-0 lead in the match.

After hitting just .073 and .067 each of the first two sets, Lourdes posted 15 kills and swung at a .224 clip in the third.  The Gray Wolves never trailed in the stanza, scoring four of the final five points to extend the match.  Lourdes rallied from a 15-9 deficit in the fourth to pull in front 22-21, but Indiana Tech tallied four straight points to clinch the match.

Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) led Lourdes with 13 kills while Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) and Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.) added nine each as the Gray Wolves hit just .118 as a team.

Yasmin Assis (Salto, Brazil/Antonio Alves Aranha) dished out 31 assists and added 10 digs while Yondo led the defense with 23 digs.  Hale and Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) had 11 digs each, with Plasencio adding four service aces.

Madelyn Omo led Indiana Tech (14-7, 11-5 WHAC) with 12 kills and hit .632 while Havilyn Cummings tallied 11 kills and swung at a .474 clip.

Lourdes (4-12, 4-11) will remain home on Friday evening to host Northwestern Ohio.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
