Led by its lone senior,
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.), Lourdes posted a 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Friday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center for Senior Night.
Hale hit .500 with a match-high 13 kills and nine digs while adding a pair of blocks on the night.
"We played a relatively clean match," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We served well for the most part and hit efficiently. We passed well the first two sets."
Trailing 6-4 in the opening set, Lourdes ran off six straight points to take the lead and never fell behind the rest of the stanza. The Gray Wolves hit .429 with 15 kills in set one. In the second set, Lourdes committed just one attack error and hit .522. A 13-3 run broke the set open as the hosts built a 2-0 lead in the match.
Northwestern Ohio (4-16, 1-13 WHAC) looked as if it was going to force a fourth set, building an 18-4 lead in the third. However, Lourdes closed the match on a 21-2 run behind the service of
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) and
Michaela Eisenhauer (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta H.S.), the latter serving up the match's final 12 points.
"We served aggressively, and everyone was scrappy keeping balls alive," Reitz added on the comeback. "That allowed us to find a way to score points."
Annika Devendorf (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) handed out 28 assists while leading the Lourdes offense that hit .386 on the night. Plasencio tallied 15 digs and served up four aces.
Aaliyah Alexis led Northwestern Ohio with 11 kills.
Lourdes (5-12, 5-11) has now closed out the regular season after matches at Aquinas and against Lawrence Tech, slated for Saturday and Tuesday respectively, have been cancelled. The Gray Wolves will await the pairings for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament which will begin April 6.
