Playing outside for the first time this spring, Lourdes also faced its first nationally ranked opponent of the season on Monday afternoon, falling to ninth-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio 2-0 at Racer Stadium in Lima, Ohio.
Â
"UNOH is definitely a top-10 opponent as they are a very strong team," head coach
Matt Johnson said afterwards. "They have quality individual players and are well coached. It was a big challenge for us."
Â
While the Gray Wolves managed just three shots on the afternoon, the Lourdes defense was nearly as strong, yielding just 12 total shot attempts to the Racers, only five of which were on goal.
Â
Northwestern Ohio (2-0, 1-0 WHAC) found the scoreboard in the eighth minute as Gustavo Moses found the back of the net with Devin Morgan and Thomas Echevarria drawing the assists.
Â
Moses then assisted on the Racers' second goal just 3:10 into the second half as Kareem Jouini scored the insurance tally.
Â
Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fountainebleau [La.] H.S.) made three saves in net for the Gray Wolves while Mark McMillan made one stop for the Racers.
Â
Lourdes (7-5, 4-2) will return to action on March 17 as the Gray Wolves travel to Howell, Mich. to face Cleary. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Lake Trust Field.
