Lourdes began its final homestand of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Madonna 10-6 and 15-4 at Mercy Field.
Madonna took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second of game one before the Gray Wolves responded in the bottom of the inning.
Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) singled home
Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) before
Corey Righman (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley H.S.) scored on the back end of a double steal.
The Crusaders pushed their lead back to three with a pair of runs in the fifth before the Gray Wolves answered with four of their own to take the lead. Three hit batters all came around score in the inning, with Richman delivering a RBI single and Denman clearing the bases with a two-run single with a third run scoring on an error.
Trailing 6-5 heading to the sixth, the visitors batted around in the inning, scoring four times to retake the lead. Madonna added a final run in the eighth to secure the victory.
Righman, Denman, and
Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) each had two hits and accounted for six of the Gray Wolves' eight in the game.
Madonna (12-9, 8-4 WHAC) started fast in game two, scoring four times in the first and added three more in the second for a quick 7-0 lead.
The Gray Wolves broke through on the scoreboard in the second as Righman scored on a double play grounder before
Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) and
Zack Mon (Columbus, Ohio/Westland H.S.) each delivered RBI singles in the third.
The Crusaders responded with two of their own in the fourth and broke the game open with six more in the fifth. Ammons added a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but the Gray Wolves were unable to plate any more in the nightcap.
Denman, Childress, Ammons, and Mon all had two hits for Lourdes in game two.
Lourdes (15-23, 5-11) will close out the home slate on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Concordia (Mich.). First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the game.
