Lourdes used a combination of strong pitching and timely offense to sweep a doubleheader from Siena Heights 8-1 and 9-2 on Saturday afternoon at the SHU Baseball Diamond in Adrian, Mich.
With the game scoreless in the fourth inning,
Michael Strzelewicz (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary's Catholic Central H.S.) lifted a sacrifice fly to left to put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard. Two batters later,
Zack Mon (Columbus, Ohio/Westland H.S.) delivered a bases loaded double to score three runs, giving Lourdes a 4-0 advantage.
Jagger Geck (Algonac, Mich./Algonac H.S.) did the rest on the hill, working seven shutout innings to earn the win (4-4). He struck out four and walked just one while scattering nine hits.
Lourdes added some insurance runs in the eighth as Mon was hit with the bases loaded and
Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) followed with a RBI single.
Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) added a sacrifice fly in the inning to make it a 7-0 lead.
After the Saints tallied a run in the eighth, Lourdes added one final run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by
Bryce Gargus (South Haven, Mich./South Haven H.S.).
In game two, after scoring a run in the opening inning, Lourdes erupted for five in the second to take control.
Max Peyton (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria H.S.) and Denman each tallied RBI doubles and
Corey Righman (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley H.S.) delivered a RBI single to make it 6-0 Gray Wolves.
A
Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) sacrifice fly in the third and a Righman hit in the fifth pushed the lead to 7-0 through sixth.
Siena Heights (8-27, 4-12 WHAC) scored two runs in the seventh, but that would be the Saints' lone offense.
Denman added a RBI triple in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Ryan Kroll (Brownstown, Mich./Carlson H.S.) pitched seven strong innings for the win (2-0), allowing just the two runs, only one of which was earned, and three hits.
Denman and Peyton both had three hits for the Gray Wolves as part of a 14-hit attack.
Lourdes (17-26, 7-13) will close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon facing Lawrence Tech. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica, Mich.
