Lourdes was pushed to the limit on Wednesday evening but managed to pull out a five-set victory over Lawrence Tech inside the Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich. by a score of 25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 19-25, 15-9 to run its winning streak to three consecutive matches.
 
"This was quite a battle," head coach Greg Reitz said after the match.  "We left a lot of points on the court tonight, but ultimately were able to score enough to come away with the win.  It wasn't the performance we were hoping for, but we are happy to get out with the win."
 
The Gray Wolves led wire-to-wire in the opening set, scoring the first four points and never looking back.  Lourdes committed just three attack errors in the stanza, hitting .213, to take the early lead in the match.
 
Set two had 18 ties before the Blue Devils evened the match at a set each.  Lourdes trailed 8-3 early before scoring the next five points to pull even at eight before the teams began trading points.  Lawrence Tech put down 18 kills in the set and hit .341 to ultimately earn the win.
 
Lourdes trailed 10-6 in the third set before scoring nine consecutive points behind the service of Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.).  The Gray Wolves took advantage of five attack errors by the hosts during the run to pull within a set of victory.
 
Lawrence Tech (1-6, 1-6 WHAC) evened the match with a win in the fourth, closing the set on a 7-2 run after Lourdes was within one at 18-17.  In the fifth, the Gray Wolves never trailed, and three straight service aces from Lydia Landoll (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) late in the set pushed Lourdes to the brink of victory.
 
Vanessa Villarreal (Monroe, Mich./Saint Mary Central Catholic H.S.) led Lourdes with 14 kills while Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) added 13 kills while swinging at a .522 clip.  Villarreal also had 11 digs for a double-double while Katey Stakolich (Parma,Ohio/Normandy H.S.) added one of her own with 43 assists and 16 digs while leading an offense that hit .176 on the night.
 
Defensively, Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) registered 29 digs while Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) added 14 more.  McBride tallied 12 digs to go along with three aces, matching Landoll's total.
 
Lindsay Hubler led Lawrence Tech with 16 kills and 28 digs while Madeline Hudson added 15 kills and hit .419.  The Blue Devils finished the night hitting .199 as a team.
 
Lourdes (5-7, 3-4) returns home on Friday evening to host Concordia (Mich.).  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
