Lourdes won its ninth consecutive game, and 15
th in a row at home, on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated Concordia (Mich.) 89-72 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"We did a good job of getting easy baskets by scoring in the paint," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. "N'Keeley distributed the ball well with nine assists and we had 22 total assists as a team. I would like to see us play with more energy for a full 40 minutes though instead of just in spurts."
N'Keeley Elmore (Columbus, Ohio/Northland H.S.) committed just one turnover to go along with his nine helpers as four Gray Wolves finished the game in double figures.
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights H.S.) and
Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) both had 19 points to lead Lourdes.
Lourdes trailed 19-17 midway through the opening half and led by just two, 29-27, with under six minutes to play before closing the opening stanza on a 19-2 run to take a 48-29 lead into the locker room.
The Gray Wolves continued to extend the lead out of halftime, pushing the advantage to as many as 31, 84-53, following a three-point play by
Anthony Mills (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South H.S.). Lourdes still led 86-58 with under six minutes to play when Concordia scored the next 12 points to cut into the advantage. The Cardinals pulled to within 16 in the final minute.
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 17 points while
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) chipped in 16 more as the Gray Wolves shot 58.1% from the floor for the game, including 63.3% in the opening 20 minutes.
Colton Ritsema led Concordia (7-9, 2-7 WHAC) with 19 points as the Cardinals shot 49.1% for the evening.
Lourdes (14-3, 6-3) remains home on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Rochester (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
