Lourdes withstood several second half runs from Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon to win its 10th consecutive game, 77-69, inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The win, the first one in the streak that was by single digits, also extended the Gray Wolves' home court streak to 16 consecutive victories.

"Our guys executed the game plan well and played extremely tough," head coach Dennis Hopson said after the game.

Trailing by one five minutes into the contest, Lourdes scored the game's next seven points to take the lead for good, putting Lourdes on top 15-9 at the 12:31 mark of the opening half. Rochester pulled within two, 31-29, with just over three minutes to play before halftime before the Gray Wolves eight straight points to build their largest lead of the stanza, 10, before taking a 39-32 advantage into the locker room.

Rochester cut into its deficit in the first four minutes of the second half, cutting the Lourdes advantage to just two, 42-40 before the Gray Wolves immediately answered with a lay-in by Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.).

The Lourdes lead was back down to two, 51-49, and the Warriors had four offensive possessions to tie or take the lead but came up empty. The Gray Wolves then scored 10 straight points including a pair of three-pointers by Anthony Mills (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South H.S.) and Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) in less than two minutes to push the lead to 12 with under eight minutes to play. Lourdes did not allow Rochester to get closer than five down the stretch in securing the win.

Welch finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Anderson added 21 points as the Gray Wolves had just two players score in double figures for the first time this season.

Lourdes shot 41.2% from the floor, including 42.9% (6-of-14) from three-point range and committed just seven turnovers. The Gray Wolves overcame 53.6% (15-of-28) free throw shooting by outrebounding the Warriors 49-16, including 16-9 on the offensive end.

"Our focus is to pound people in the paint, and we did that today with 42 points inside," Hopson said. Â We also did a good job of turning their nine turnovers into 15 points."

AJ Johnson led Rochester (13-7, 6-4 WHAC) with 16 points while Diego Robinson added 13 more. Noah Holly pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Warriors were held to 34.4% shooting, including a 25.9% clip from long range, but stayed in the game making 18-of-20 (90%) from the charity stripe.

Lourdes (15-3, 7-3) will look to match its school-record 11-game winning streak on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves continue their homestand hosting Aquinas. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
