Gray Wolves Extend Winning Streak to Eight

Lourdes jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead on Saturday afternoon and cruised to its eighth straight victory, defeating the University of Michigan-Dearborn 76-53 inside of the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena in Livonia, Mich.

"I thought we played with great energy in the first half and rebounded well," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We have to continue to compete for a full 40 minutes."

The Gray Wolves never trailed in the contest, taking control early with an 11-0 run over two minutes to take a 20-9 lead at the 11-minute mark of the opening stanza.  Lourdes then closed the half with another 19-5 spurt to build a 41-19 advantage at the break.

Lourdes outscored the Wolverines 24-10 over the first 11 minutes of the second half, increasing the lead to 36, 65-29.  Michigan-Dearborn answered with a 15-3 run to pull within 24 in the late moments before the Gray Wolves secured the win.

Little Anderson (Cardinal Stritch H.S.) led Lourdes with 23 points while McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield H.S.) added 17 points while grabbing 17 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double and fourth overall this season.

Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) also scored 12 points while dishing out seven assists as the Lourdes offense shot 40.3% from the floor and committed just nine turnovers.  Nick Welch (Temperance, Mich./Saint Mary Catholic Central H.S.) pulled down 10 rebounds as the Gray Wolves finished with a 53-38 advantage on the glass.

Elwood Tomlinson led Michigan-Dearborn (3-11, 1-7 WHAC) with 16 points while Jason Gigliotti added a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.  The Wolverines shot just 31.8% from the field, making only 4-of-21 (19%) three-point field goals.

Lourdes (13-3, 5-3) returns home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
