Michigan-Dearborn Defeats Lourdes to Close First Half

Lourdes wrapped up the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling in four sets to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
The Gray Wolves jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the opening set before seven straight points gave the Wolverines a 12-10 advantage.  After the set was tied at 12, Michigan-Dearborn scored four of the next five points and never trailed the rest of the way.
 
Lourdes started quickly in the second as well, leading 7-2 before the visitors battled back to tie the frame at 11.  The Gray Wolves scored the next five points as part of a 10-3 run on the way to evening the match at one.
 
Michigan-Dearborn (10-10, 6-3 WHAC) hit .423 in the third set and scored six consecutive points when the stanza was tied at 14 to begin a 9-1 run on the way to the win.  Lourdes trailed the entire four set before pulling even at 23, only to see the Wolverines close with the final two points to earn the victory.
 
The Gray Wolves hit .156 for the match with Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handing out 40 assists.  McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) had a match-high 14 kills while Macey Zinser (Bucyrus, Ohio/Wynford H.S.) added 12 more.  Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Ohio/Blissfield H.S.) chipped in 11 kills offensively.
 
On defense, Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) picked up 16 digs while Zinser, Quinn Olding (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop H.S.), and Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) were all in on three blocks each.
 
Sydney Eggleton, Kielee Tondryk, and Regan Sliwinski all paced Michigan-Dearborn with 13 kills each while Kenzie Mertz registered 17 digs.
 
Lourdes (7-10, 3-7) will have a week off before returning to action next Saturday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Ohio as the Gray Wolves step out of conference for a tri-match.  Lourdes battles Trinity International at noon and Mount Vernon Nazarene at 2 p.m. inside of Ariel Arena.
