For the third time in program history Lourdes earned a draw against a nationally-ranked foe on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves played 18
th-ranked Indiana Tech to a 1-1 draw at Wildcat Stadium.
The Gray Wolves played Indiana Tech to a 1-1 draw on March 20, 2021, as well when the Warriors were ranked 12
th nationally, the last result Lourdes earned against a top-25 foe.
"Indiana Tech is a really good team," head coach
Matt Johnson said afterwards. "We had some issues getting through their midfield early on. It felt like we found our way into the game as it went on, particularly once we played with a little more courage to look for balls behind the backline. We showed good resolve batling back after we gave up the goal, and was very happy that we finished off the penalty kick. It is nice to take a point off of a top-20 team, and one that had previously won all of their conference games."
Lourdes had the advantage in a scoreless opening half, outshooting Indiana Tech 6-2, registering the only two shots on net.
The Warriors found the scoreboard first in the second half though. Lucca Motta received a ball from the wing in the middle of the penalty area and dribbled around several Gray Wolf defenders before scoring at the 58:03 mark.
The Gray Wolves battled back though, drawing a foul in the penalty area with 20:07 remaining in the match.
Leon Eisert (Leipzig, Germany/Kathe-Kollwitz Gymnasium) stepped up to the penalty spot and converted for his first goal of the season to even the match. The tally was the eighth of Eisert's career.
Neither team would find the back of the net the rest of the way as shots ended up even 12-12 after 90 minutes.
Alex Brock (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) made five saves for Lourdes while Jaume Salvado had six stops for Indiana Tech (7-1-4, 5-0-1 WHAC).
Lourdes (3-6-4, 1-2-3), which has tied its last three matches, will take to the road for four of its final five contests beginning on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a match against Aquinas with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. at the Aquinas Athletic Field.
"It will be a big test going to Grand Rapids on Saturday, so we need to recover quickly," Johnson concluded.
