Lourdes pulled within a goal with less than five minutes to play on Saturday, but was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Aquinas 3-2 at the Aquinas Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Ricardo Rittersberger slipped in behind the Lourdes defense and scored in the 12
th minute to put the Saints in front early, 1-0.

Lourdes responded with 20:20 to play before halftime as
Anthony Samuel (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago/Chaguanas) converted from the penalty spot to even the match heading into intermission as each side had seven shot attempts in the opening half.

Aquinas (8-4-2, 5-1-1 WHAC) took the lead with a penalty kick of its own just 2:55 into the second half as Andrea Ghiggini converted his attempt. The Saints increased the lead to two just 2:27 later as Rittersberger took a cross from Mason Sills and tapped the ball into the goal.

The Gray Wolves battled back, closing to within one late.Â
Leon Eisert (Leipzig, Germany/Kathe-Kollwitz Gymnasium) scored his second goal of the season to make it a 3-2 match with 4:10 to play but Lourdes was unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

Lourdes finished with a 14-11 shot advantage and
Alex Brock (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) made four saves in goal for the Gray Wolves. Antonio Strassioto made three stops in the win for the Saints.

Lourdes (3-7-4, 1-3-3) remains on the road Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to battle Concordia (Mich.). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
