Lourdes Completes Season Sweep of Concordia

Lourdes snapped a five-match losing skid on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated Concordia (Mich.) 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 to complete the season sweep of the Cardinals inside Cardinal Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"This was a very solid defensive match for us," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We were able to affect their offense with how we were playing on defense.  This is something to build upon for our next match."

Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) put down a match-high 12 kills while Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) added eight kills and hit .467 on the evening.  Smith also had five blocks defensively.  Katie Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handed out 30 assists while directing an offense that hit .216 as a team.

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) picked up 18 digs while Jolie Sobb (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) and Finley Coghlan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville H.S.) added 13 digs each.  Stakolich recorded 11 digs to complete her double-double.

Leading 11-9 in the opening set, Lourdes scored eight straight points to push the lead to double digits and never looked back.  The Gray Wolf lead was just 16-14 in the second when the visitors scored the next five points to take control and build a 2-0 lead in the match.  In the third, Lourdes raced out to a 12-6 lead and eventually scored the final four points of the contest to complete the sweep.

Claudia Grepke and Kayla Peters led Concordia (9-14, 4-7 WHAC) with nine kills each while McKenzie Peters had a team-high 18 digs.

Lourdes (8-12, 4-7) returns home on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Aquinas.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
