Lourdes Drops Road Affair at Concordia Wednesday Afternoon

A first half penalty kick goal resulted in the only scoring of the match on Wednesday afternoon as Lourdes fell 1-0 to Concordia (Mich.) on the road at Cardinal Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Lourdes controlled the play, finishing the match with a 26-3 shot advantage, including an 11-2 edge on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.  The Gray Wolves also had 14 corner kick opportunities without surrendering one defensively.

The lone goal of the match came with 15:48 to play before halftime.  The Cardinals sent a long ball down field on a counterattack and Bryce Ferrin was tripped up in the penalty area.  Nicholas Corona stepped up to the penalty spot and converted for his second goal of the season, which proved to be the only tally of the day.

The Gray Wolves were unable to find the equalizer over the final 45 minutes, despite an 18-1 shot advantage, including eight attempts on goal.

Yianni Kanellopoulos (Northville, Mich./Northville H.S.) played the opening 45 minutes in goal for the Gray Wolves while Igor Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Pentagono) made one stop in the second half.  Kyri Wixom made nine saves for Concorida (2-12, 1-7 WHAC) on his way to earning the shutout.

Lourdes (3-8-4, 1-4-3) closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the match.
