Lourdes Drops Second Straight Five-Set Match

Playing five sets for the third consecutive match, Lourdes dropped its second straight contest on Wednesday evening, falling 24-26, 25-21, 25-16, 14-25, 15-11 to Indiana Tech inside the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
 
"We competed well tonight," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We gave ourselves chances but came up just short.  This is a positive step if we continue to build upon it."
 
Lourdes hit .211 in the match, led by 16 kills from Jolie Sobb (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.).  Cammy Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) added 12 kills while swinging at a .526 clip and registered four blocks.
 
The Gray Wolves rallied from a 23-20 deficit in the opening set to earn the victory before Indiana Tech (23-3, 11-3 WHAC) used a 5-0 run late in set two to even the match.  The Warriors closed set three on a 12-3 run before Lourdes forced the decisive fifth set with a .440 stanza offensively in the fourth.  The Gray Wolves jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the fourth and never trailed.  In the fifth, Lourdes held a 9-7 lead before the hosts rallied to win the match.
 
Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) put down 11 kills and had 10 digs while McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) contributed 10 kills and 16 digs.  Sobb also had a double-double with 11 digs to go along with her dig total.
 
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) ran the offense, handing out 45 assists, while Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) recorded a match-high 21 digs.
 
Noelle VanOort led Indiana Tech with 17 kills while Emma Westra added 14 more for a Warrior offense that hit .293 on the night.  Jacey Blust had a team-high 18 digs.
 
Lourdes (9-14, 5-9) continues its road trip on Friday evening, traveling to Livonia, Mich. to face Madonna.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
