Plasencio Surpasses 2,000 Career Digs in Five-Set Loss at Madonna

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) became the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach 2,000 career digs, but Madonna rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to defeated Lourdes 25-18, 13-25, 17-25, 25-15, 15-9 on Friday evening inside the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena in Livonia, Mich.
 
Plasencio recorded 22 digs in the match and now has 2,003 digs over her five seasons at Lourdes, trailing just Michi Jimenez on the all-time list.  Jimenez concluded her career with 2,143 digs.
 
Madonna (11-9, 8-6 WHAC) jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead in the opening set to take the early lead in the match.  Lourdes rebounded in the second, taking a 14-5 advantage of its own to even the contest.  The Gray Wolves started fast in set three as well, building an 8-3 lead, on the way to winning the stanza and taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Crusaders responded in the fourth, taking advantage of a 12-2 run to pull in front 21-11.  Madonna forced Lourdes to a fifth set for the fourth consecutive match.  The Gray Wolves dropped their third straight, as the Crusaders closed out the match on an 8-2 run after the two sides were tied at seven in the final set.
 
McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led Lourdes with 14 kills as Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) handed out 37 assists while directing an offense that hit .130 for the night.  Plasencio and Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) each served up six aces.
 
Kira Buza led Madonna with 17 kills and hit .419 while tallying seven blocks.  Jamie Ciacico picked up 28 digs in the match.
 
Lourdes (9-15, 5-10) concludes its three-match road trip on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Rochester Hills, Mich. to face Rochester (Mich.).  First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside of Garth Pleasant Arena.
