Wednesday's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference dual was decided in the third period of the final bout as Lourdes defeated Cornerstone 20-18 inside Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"This was not a pretty win, but we will take it," head coach
Dock Kelly III said afterwards. "Cornerstone wrestled well and gave us their best shot, but I'm so proud of the way that we responded in this adverse environment. We are going to learn from this match, work hard to correct our mistakes, and get ready to battle again on Saturday."

Trailing 18-17 heading into the heavyweight contest,
Joe Dreisbach (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern H.S.) recorded a 3-1 decision to give the Gray Wolves the decisive point as Lourdes improved to 2-0 in dual matches this season along with a 2-0 mark in WHAC action.

Cornerstone (0-1, 0-1) won the day's first bout at 125 pounds before
Cole McKinley (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) scored a 10-3 decision at 133 to even the score. The Golden Eagles won at 141 but
Hunter Yackee (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon H.S.) answered at 149 with his 10-4 decision.

The Golden Eagles built a 12-6 advantage with wins at both 157 and 165 before scoring a fall at 174 to pull in front by 12.

Lourdes would answer the challenge, rallying in the final three bouts to secure the win.Â
Will Speight (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) scored a 25-10 tech fall late in the third period at 184 pounds to start the comeback before
Carter Kroll (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) won via forfeit at 197, pulling the Gray Wolves within one and setting the stage for the heavyweight clash.

Lourdes will return to the mat on Saturday as the Gray Wolves take part in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational. Action begins at 10 a.m. inside Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse in Berea, Ohio.
