Cold Shooting Hurts Lourdes in Season’s First Setback

Lourdes shot just 24.1% from the floor on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play dropping its first game of the season, 60-41, to Concordia (Mich.) inside Cardinal Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"We weren't good enough tonight and didn't play tough enough," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We didn't shoot the ball well, only had four points in the paint, and didn't rebound well."

Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) was the only Gray Wolf to finish in double figures, scoring 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting.  He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Lourdes jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead just over three minutes into the game and still had a five-point advantage, 15-10, at the 11:43 mark.  The Cardinals held the Gray Wolves without a field goal for the next 10 minutes, using a 15-0 spurt to take the lead for good.  Down 10, Lourdes scored the final six points before halftime to pull within 25-21 at the break.

The Gray Wolves were able to pull within two, 35-33, with just over 12 minutes to play on a Harris triple before Concordia scored the next 12 points to pull away.  The Cardinals then held Lourdes scoreless for the final six minutes, closing the game on a 10-0 run.

Matt Lockhart and Zackary Johnson led four Concordia (1-3, 1-0 WHAC) players in double figures with 12 points each.

Lourdes (2-1, 0-1) returns home to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Michigan-Dearborn.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
