Lourdes Holds Off Siena Heights Rally for Road Win

Joey Holifield's (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) three-point play with 1.3 seconds remaining lifted Lourdes to a 60-57 victory over Siena Heights on Wednesday evening inside the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.

Holifield's basket gave the Gray Wolves the victory after the Saints rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to tie the game in the closing seconds.

"Our inconsistency kills us," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We need to get better at being consistent.  Now is not the time to have highs and lows after 27 games."

After a slow start offensively, which saw Lourdes score just two points in more than five minutes at the onset, the Gray Wolves scored the next 11 points to build a 13-6 advantage, and would never trail the rest of the way.  The Lourdes advantage grew to as many as 14 in the first half before the Gray Wolves took a 33-22 lead into the locker room.

A 10-2 run out of the locker room by the hosts pulled the Saints to within three just four minutes into the second half.  Lourdes was able to push the lead back to seven several times, including a 52-45 edge with under seven minutes to play.

The Lourdes lead was still six, 57-51, at with two-and-a-half minutes to play when Siena Heights scored the next six points, tying the game with 24 seconds to play on a Curtis Bell III basket.  After a pair of fouls by the Saints as time wound down, Holifield took an inbounds pass along the baseline and hit the jumper as he was fouled, giving Lourdes the win.

McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights H.S.) led Lourdes with a double-double, registering 13 points and 10 rebounds while Holifield and Brett Lauf (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) added 12 points each.

Max Moratinos paced Siena Heights (7-20, 4-15 WHAC) with 14 points while Bell added 12 more.

Lourdes (21-6, 13-6) closes out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Cornerstone.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside of Mol Arena.
