Lourdes wrapped up its four-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with Tennessee Southern at Bobby Walker Field.  The Gray Wolves won the opener in a slugfest 19-16 before the Firehawks took the nightcap 9-1.
 
"There is so much to talk about in game one," head coach Josh Bradford said afterwards.  "This is what we want our offense to look like.  We had baserunners all over the place, creating pressure on the defense and opposing pitcher.  They did the same thing to us.  Both teams struggled to keep momentum.  We were fortunate to come out on top at the end.  Game two was the opposite though, as we didn't create very many scoring opportunities."
 
In the opener, Carson Barker (Alliston, Ont./Banting Memorial H.S.) had four hits while Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) and Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont./Holy Trinity H.S.) each had three runs batted in.  The Gray Wolves had 17 hits in the contest, with all nine starters tallying at least one.
 
Trailing 2-0 heading into the third, Lourdes erupted with six runs to jump in front.  Tennessee Southern responded with four in the bottom of the frame and the game stayed tied 6-6 heading into the fifth.  The offensive fireworks began in the fifth, with the Gray Wolves scoring three times before the Firehawks responded with seven in the bottom of the inning.
 
Lourdes plated five in the top of the six before a home run in the bottom of the sixth knotted the game at 14 heading to the final inning.  The Gray Wolves tallied just one hit in the seventh, but took advantage of a pair of errors for their second straight five-run inning to take the lead.  Tennessee Southern answered with a pair of runs, but the Gray Wolves managed to earn their first win of the series.
 
Deon Kurtz (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic H.S.) picked up the win (1-0) in relief for Lourdes while Lance Pope suffered the loss (0-1), allowing the five seventh inning runs.
 
In the nightcap, Trey Lacy went the distance for Tennessee Southern (3-6) to earn the win (1-1).  He struck out 11 and allowed just three Gray Wolf hits.
 
The Firehawks plated a pair of runs in the first, third, and fifth innings to build a 6-0 lead before Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) broke up the shutout in the sixth with a RBI single for Lourdes.  Tennessee Southern would tack on three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to close out the win.
 
Bryn Biemiller (Newmarket, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing six runs, four of which were earned, in four innings of work.
 
Lourdes (5-3) will have two weeks off before returning to the diamond on March 5 to begin a three-game series at Campbellsville.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at HIG Baseball Field in Campbellsville, Ky.
