Lourdes began a four-game series on the road at Campbellsville on Saturday, dropping the opener 5-3 before bouncing back for a 3-2 victory in game two at HIG Field in Campbellsville, Ky.
Â
"We got two great starts today from Caleb and Wyatt," head coach
Josh Bradford said afterwards. "It was a tough day at the plate with the wind blowing in. In game one we gave up too many freebies and were not able to get it done with guys in scoring position. In game two, Caleb was in control from the first pitch. We were able to scratch out a few runs early then let him bring us home."
Â
The Gray Wolves struck first in the opener, taking advantage of several Tiger errors to plate an unearned run in the fourth. Lourdes would carry that lead into the bottom of the fifth behind
Wyatt Smith (Sycamore, Ohio/Wynford H.S.), who would strikeout six in five innings of work.
Â
Campbellsville struck for three to take the lead in the fifth, only one of which was earned, before plating two more in the six. Lourdes tried to rally in the seventh with a pair of runs, but came up short.
Â
Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont./Holy Trinity H.S.) and
Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) each accounted for two of the team's four hits in the opener.
Â
In game two,
Caleb Loboschefski (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) went the distance for his first collegiate victory. He gave up just two runs on four hits while fanning four.
Â
An infield single by Hare plated the first run before Lourdes added two in the third. A wild pitch and another hit by Hare made it 3-0 Gray Wolves. Campbellsville would score two in the fifth but Loboschefski then finished the Tigers off.
Â
Dugan led the offense with two of the team's five hits in game two.
Â
Lourdes (6-4) and Campbellsville (5-9) will continue the series on Sunday with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
