Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Having won four consecutive matches overall, Lourdes begins a three-match homestand over a six-day span. The Gray Wolves begin with a Thursday afternoon contest against Mount Vernon Nazarene before hosting Cardinal Stritch 24 hours later. Lourdes will conclude the homestand on Tuesday night entertaining Lawrence Tech.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 11th season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 200-73 (.733) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first nine seasons at Lourdes, including the WHAC Coach of the Year in 2018. He is the only head coach in program history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Mount Vernon Nazarene in a series that dates back to Jan. 26, 2021. The Gray Wolves have swept all three previous meetings, including the first contest this season on Jan. 20 in Mount Vernon, Ohio. This is the Cougars second trip to the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes holds an 11-6 series advantage against Cardinal Stritch dating back to Jan. 27, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won the last seven meetings between the two schools but the teams have not met since 2019. Lourdes is 3-0 against the Wolves in the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves are 14-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that began Jan. 20, 2016. Lourdes swept the first meeting this year on Feb. 19 in Southfield, Mich. and has dropped just one set all-time to Lawrence Tech. The Gray Wolves are 5-0 against the Blue Devils in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes defeated 13th-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) 25-14, 25-27, 26-28, 25-23, 15-9 on Friday (Feb. 18).
Jeff Lam had 24 kills and 11 digs while
Eduardo Ayala added 17 kills. On Saturday (Feb. 19), the Gray Wolves swept Lawrence Tech 25-18, 25-17, 25-10. Lam had 14 kills and
Guga Heidrich had 14 digs.
Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene: The Cougars have won two straight matches after defeating Alderson Broaddus in four sets on Saturday (Feb. 19). Spencer Stanley leads Mount Vernon Nazarene with 189 kills and is hitting .267 while Jaysen Matsumoto has handed out 408 assists. Landon Ewers has registered a team-leading 15 service aces. Defensively, Daniel Skrzypchak had tallied 94 digs while Ewers has notched 28 blocks, including 10 of the solo variety.
Scouting Cardinal Stritch: The Wolves enter the week having won back-to-back matches after a five-set victory at Lincoln on Monday. Cardinal Stritch plays at Indiana Tech on Thursday before visiting Lourdes. Kyle Pietrzak leads the Cardinal Stritch offense with 123 kills and a .271 hitting percentage while Jake Evanish has dished out 266 assists. Cooper Polczinski has 17 aces. On defense, Jack Leininger has a team-high 70 digs while Travis Shore has 25 blocks.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week having dropped four of their last five after being swept by Lourdes on Saturday (Feb. 19). Lawrence Tech plays four matches through the weekend prior to heading to Lourdes. Felix Perez has a team-high 156 kills and 18 service aces while Jeffry Fuhrmann is hitting .306. Simon Phillip has recorded 437 assists.
Collin Holt leads the team with 146 digs while Connor Cooper has 44 blocks.
Heidrich Earns WHAC Honors: Guga Heidrich was named the WHAC Defender of the Week for his efforts in the two wins against Georgetown (Ky.) and Lawrence Tech. The tallied 33 total digs over the eights sets, and average of 4.13 per stanza. He had a 19-dig effort along with seven assists against Georgetown.
A New Record Holder: Jeff Lam broke the school's career kills record last Friday against Lawrence Tech. He surpassed Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who tallied 1,179 during his four years at Lourdes. Lam enters the homestand with 1,210 career kills.
Reaching 200: Lourdes, and head coach
Greg Reitz reached the 200-win plateau on Saturday with the victory over Lawrence Tech. Reitz, the lone head coach in program history, has guided the Gray Wolves to a 200-73 mark entering the week. Reitz also has surpassed 200 career victories on the women's side.
Lam Holds Aces Mark: Jeff Lam set the school record for career aces last season and continues to add to his total. He enters the week with 147 career aces. The fifth-year senior has 60 more than Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who ranks second on the Gray Wolves' all-time list.
In the National Rankings: Lourdes is fourth as a team among all NAIA schools this season tallying 11.69 digs per set. Offensively, the Gray Wolves rank seventh nationally putting down 12.37 kills per stanza while the team's 11.71 assists per stanza are sixth best nationally. Lourdes also ranks seventh recording 2.23 service aces per set.
Lam Leads NAIA: Jeff Lam leads all NAIA players thus far this year offensively with a .365 hitting percentage. He also ranks second in kills per set at 5.29.
