Lourdes led for more than 35 minutes on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves cruised to their third consecutive victory with a convincing 79-52 win over Grace Christian inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Mercedes Wagner (Sherwood, Ohio/Fairview H.S.) and
Shallyn Miley (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan H.S.) both tallied double-doubles while four Gray Wolves finished the game scoring in double figures. Wagner had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Miley tallied 11 points and 10 boards.
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led all scorers with 18 points while
Alex Wolfe (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points.
"It's great to have three wins in a row as we get ready to return to conference play this week," head coach
Tandy Bradford said afterwards. "It was nice to have the chance for everyone to have a chance to play. We knew that they would be a competitive team and they showed that the way the came out in the third quarter. We had players step up though to finish out the game."
A 13-0 run in less than three minutes put the Gray Wolves in front for good in the opening period as Wagner's lay-in gave Lourdes a 21-10 advantage. Lourdes maintained a double figure lead the rest of the way. The Gray Wolves closed out the first half with 10 straight points taking a 41-23 lead into the locker room.
A triple by Wolfe pushed the lead to 22, 51-29, midway through the third before the Tigers closed the stanza on a 12-2 spurt to close within 12 heading into the final 10 minutes. Lourdes opened up the fourth with a 15-2 early in the quarter to push the lead to 25, 70-45, on the way to the victory.
The Gray Wolves shot 43.1% from the floor and handed out 22 assists against just 20 turnovers, with
Logan Ingram (Mount Pleasant, Mich./Mount Pleasant H.S.) dishing out six helpers. Lourdes held a 51-43 rebounding edge as well.
Ashley Hoek led Grace Christian (11-8) with 14 points and seven rebounds. The Tigers shot just 27.7% from the floor and were 3-of-13 (23.1%) from three-point range. The visitors committed 21 miscues.
Lourdes (10-15) concludes its homestand on Monday evening, hosting 17
th-ranked Indiana Tech in a make-up from Wednesday's (Feb. 2) postponement. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
