Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: A busy stretch of matches is ahead for Lourdes men's volleyball as the Gray Wolves play three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests in a four-day span.  The week begins by hosting nationally-ranked Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening before heading to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Cornerstone and Aquinas on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 11th season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball, Greg Reitz has a 196-72 (.731) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  He has earned six conference Coach of the Year honors during his first nine seasons at Lourdes, including the WHAC Coach of the Year in 2018.  He is the only head coach in program history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-1 all-time against Indiana Tech dating back to Jan. 25, 2020.  The Gray Wolves won two of the three meetings last season against the Warriors, including in the WHAC tournament championship.  Lourdes 2-0 against Indiana Tech in the Ebeid Rec Center.  The Gray Wolves have won all three previous meetings against Cornerstone in a series that began Jan. 29, 2021.  Lourdes won this year's first meeting against the Golden Eagles in straight sets on Jan. 28 in the Ebeid Rec Center, and have also won the only previous meeting in Grand Rapids, Mich.  Lourdes holds a 5-2 series edge against Aquinas dating back to March 1, 2019.  The two schools split a pair of contests last season, with each team defending its home court.  Lourdes is 2-1 against the Saints in Grand Rapids.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves had their 16-match home court win streak snapped on Tuesday (Feb. 1) with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 setback against Siena Heights.  Jeff Lam had 14 kills and 11 digs in the loss.  On Saturday (Feb. 5), Lourdes withstood a late Goshen rally to defeat the Maple Leafs 25-19, 26-24, 29-31, 20-25, 15-11 on the road.  Lam had 28 kills and 11 digs while Eduardo Ayala added 19 kills and 23 digs.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Cornerstone on Friday (Feb. 4).  Daynte Stewart is hitting .350 with 154 kills for Indiana Tech while Brandon Jones has a team-leading 207 assists.  Mason Milan has tallied 14 service aces.  Defensively, Joey Hermes has a team-high 125 digs and Raekwon Rogers has recorded 45 blocks.

Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having dropped two straight after falling in three sets to Indiana Tech on Friday (Feb. 4).  Cornerstone heads to Lawrence Tech on Tuesday before hosting Lourdes.  David Galanes leads the Golden Eagles with 131 kills and 19 aces while Max Hernandez is hitting a team-high .270.  Patrick Voloch has handed out 242 assists.  On defense, Alex Hekman has 95 digs while Joshua Beaumont has 31 blocks.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won back-to-back matches after downing Mount Vernon Nazarene in four sets on Saturday (Feb. 5) and head to Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes.  Julian Armendano paces the Saints offense with 152 kills and is hitting .372  while adding 17 service aces.  Matthew Richmond has dished out 252 assists.  Kelsey Yogi leads Aquinas with 88 digs while Daniel De La Rosa has a team-high 38 blocks.

Double Trouble: Jeff Lam notched a pair of double-doubles while Eduardo Ayala also had one last week for the Gray Wolves.  Lam had 14 kills and 11 digs in the loss to Siena Heights and a match-high 28 kills and 11 digs at Goshen for his first two of the year.  Ayala added 19 kills at Goshen along with a season-high 23 digs for his first double-double as a Gray Wolf.

Home Court Streak Ends: Lourdes had won 16 straight home matches prior to last Tuesday's loss to Siena Heights.  All-time Lourdes is 49-7 on its home floor since the building opened in September of 2016, with the Gray Wolves' last setback coming Feb. 12, 2020, a five-set loss to Goshen.

Heidrich Solid on Defense: Guga Heidrich has registered double figure dig totals for Lourdes in all but one match this season.  The only match in which he failed to reach 10 digs was against Rio Grande, where Lourdes had just 15 total digs as a team.

Stop and Go: Through the first four weeks of the season, Lourdes has had as many matches postponed or cancelled, five, as the Gray Wolves have played.  Only the Lawrence Tech match is slated to be made up, with the rescheduled date of March 1.

Nearing the School Record: Jeff Lam ranks second in program history with 1,103 career kills.  He is just 76 kills shy of the school record holder, Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who tallied 1,179 during his four years at Lourdes.

Lam Holds Aces Mark: Jeff Lam set the school record for career aces last season and continues to add to his total.  He enters the week with 135 career aces.  The fifth-year senior has 48 more than Evan Gebert (2017-2020), who ranks second on the Gray Wolves' all-time list.

This and That: Sawyer Schafer is averaging 9.35 assists per set this season in his first season in the setting role ... Harrison McBean has 15 blocks in 17 sets (0.88/set) ... the Gray Wolves have served up 47 aces while yielding just 12 from their opponents ... Lourdes is hitting .266 on the year.
