Lourdes Baseball Earns Split on Day One at Blue Mountain

Lourdes bounced back from a 10-3 setback in game one of Thursday's doubleheader to defeat Blue Mountain in game two 4-2 at the BMC Sportsplex in Blue Mountain, Miss.

After falling behind 1-0 after one inning of game two, The Gray Wolves tied the game in the third as Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) doubled home Josh Hare (Simcoe, Ont./Holy Trinity H.S.) with an unearned run.

The Toppers retook the lead in the fifth and carried the 2-1 lead into the seventh.  Down to their final out, Carson Barker (Alliston, Ont./Banting Memorial H.S.) hit a three-run home run to give the Gray Wolves the victory.

Joey Oehlers (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) earned the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless relief after Bryn Biemiller (Newmarket, Ont./Bill Crothers H.S.) went five strong innings in his start, fanning five while allowing just one earned run on two hits.

Brad Ammons (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) and Gabe Scott (Curtis, Ohio/Genoa H.S.) each had two of the team's eight total hits.

In game one, Blue Mountain scored five runs in the second inning to take the lead.  Lourdes responded with three in the fourth, including a two-run double by Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.).

The Toppers added to their lead with two in the fifth and added three more in the sixth on the way to the opening win.

Hare had the only multi-hit game for Lourdes in game one, as the Gray Wolves tallied just five in the contest.

"I am not happy with the way we competed in the first game," head coach Josh Bradford said afterwards.  "I am expecting us to stay the course and play the whole game.  The second game was a well-pitched game by both teams.  Bryn settled in and pitched very well.  They were able to get a big hit in the fifth to go up.  We had a couple of base running mistakes and we just were not very good at the plate with runners in scoring position.  Carson bailed us out with the big two-out hit in the seventh.  Joey was great in relief and got us six huge outs to finish the game."

Lourdes (9-5) and Blue Mountain (12-8) will close out their four-game series on Friday with another doubleheader.  First pitch in game one is set for 1 p.m.
