Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: After two weeks off, Lourdes opens the home portion of the 2022 schedule on Saturday evening. The Gray Wolves welcome Cleary to Wildcat Stadium in a game that also serves as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Opener for both schools.
Head Coach Sierra Wagoner: In her second season on the Lourdes sidelines,
Sierra Wagoner has a 0-8 (.000) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as a collegiate head coach. Wagoner is the fourth head coach in the program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 2-1 series edge against Cleary dating back to Feb. 4, 2018. The Cougars won last season's meeting in Howell, Mich. 21-2 on March 29, 2021. The Gray Wolves' last win came on April 15, 2019, a 15-9 triumph in Howell. This will be Cleary's first visit to Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week (Or Two Weeks Ago): The Gray Wolves held a 6-5 lead at halftime of in their season opener on March 5 at Thomas More before the Saints used an 8-1 scoring run in the second half to down Lourdes 13-9 in Crestview Heights, Ky.
Amelia McCourt scored four times for Lourdes while
Jordin Rawski had two goals and an assist.
Kylie Turner also had two goals for the Gray Wolves. In goal,
Maddie Wadesisi made three saves.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars have been idle since Feb. 24 when they dropped a 19-8 decision to Kalamazoo. Natalie Busen leads Cleary with 12 goals and four assists for 16 points this season while Emily Santana has added 11 goals. Mallory Tognetti also shares the team lead with four assists. In goal, Kennedy Stilson has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 15.20 goals against average and a .415 save percentage.
Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes is 1-6 all-time in home openers dating back to the program's inaugural 2014 season. The Gray Wolves lone victory came against Bethel (Ind.) 23-3 to begin the 2018 home slate. Last year, Lourdes dropped its home opener to 10th-ranked Siena Heights 23-0.
WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 1-6 all-time to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. The Gray Wolves won their 2019 league opener against Rochester (Mich.) 22-1, the only time Lourdes has began WHAC play 1-0. Last season, the Gray Wolves dropped their first conference game 23-0 at home against Siena Heights.
Jump-starting the Offense: It took Lourdes just 30 minutes to outscore the entire 2021 season in the Gray Wolves' season opener. Lourdes found the back of the net six times in the first half at Thomas More after scoring just five times the entire 2021 campaign.
Quite a Debut: Amelia McCourt and
Jordin Rawski made the most of their first collegiate games. McCourt scored on four of her six shot attempts while winning nine draws and picking up four ground balls. Rawski had two goals and an assists in addition to three draw controls and three ground balls.
Winning Draws: Lourdes was much improved in the draw control game in the season opener at Thomas More. The Gray Wolves won 17 of 24 draws after winning just 25 of 169 during the entire 2021 season.
Amelia McCourt had nine draw controls while
Sarah Przyojski added four more.
Stepping Up on Defense: Emiliana Taylor led Lourdes in ground balls in the season opener with six while also causing three turnovers at Thomas More. Taylor now has 49 career ground balls entering the weekend.
Lourdes Debuts: The Gray Wolves had eight players appear in their first collegiate game at Thomas More.

This and That: Two of Lourdes four home games are back-to-back beginning with Cleary on Saturday before the Gray Wolves host Bethel (Ind.) on Wednesday ... the Gray Wolves outshot Thomas More 24-22 in the opener ... Lourdes also held a 22-19 edge in ground balls against the Saints.
