Game Recap: Baseball |

Lourdes Gets Solid Pitching but Drops Twinbill at Point Park

Lourdes pitching limited Point Park to just seven hits over two games on Wednesday, but the Pioneers scored multiple runs in an inning in each game to defeat the Gray Wolves 2-1 and 3-1 at Pullman Park in Butler, Pa.

"Both teams pitched really well today," head coach Josh Bradford said afterwards.  "Neither team could get much going offensively.  We had some opportunities, but we just didn't come up with the big hit."

In the opener, Jake Boyd (West Jefferson, Ohio/West Jefferson H.S.) limited the Pioneers to just two hits and two runs while striking out four in three innings of work before Spencer Rader (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) came on to toss three more innings of scoreless and hitless relief for the Gray Wolves.

Point Park scored both of its runs in the opening inning, one coming across on a wild pitch and the other on a two-out single.

Lourdes managed its lone run in the second, loading the bases with no one out before Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.) plated the only run with a sacrifice fly.  The Gray Wolves would advance a runner into scoring position in both the fourth and sixth innings but could not tie the game.

The Gray Wolves managed just four hits in the opener against three Pioneer pitchers.

In game two, five Lourdes pitchers teamed to allow just five hits in the game.

Point Park (29-9) scored all three runs in the second.  Two walks and a double scored the first run before a sacrifice fly and a single plated the other two.

The Gray Wolves' lone run came in the third as Steve Haugh (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season.  Lourdes managed just four hits in the nightcap.

Lourdes (23-17) remains on the road Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves head to Lima, Ohio to battle 21st-ranked Northwestern Ohio.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Racer Field.
