Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, Lourdes dropped a pair of games to 21
st-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon, suffering 19-2 and 14-3 setbacks at Racer Field in Lima, Ohio.
In the opener, Northwestern Ohio scored in all six innings. The Racers plated four in the first and three in the second to take the lead before closing with eight more runs in the sixth inning.
Trailing 8-0 in the fourth, Lourdes scored an unearned run as
Gabe Scott (Curtis, Ohio/Genoa H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk to score
Harrison Jackson (Millbury, Ohio/Lake H.S.). The Gray Wolves added one final run in the sixth as Scott homered to right for his fifth round-tripper of the season.
In game two, the Racers scored a run in the second before Lourdes battled back to take the lead in the fourth.
Steve Haugh (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) hit a two-run home run to take the lead, 2-1. Northwestern Ohio (30-9, 17-1 WHAC) answered with two of its own to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame.
Lourdes tied the game in the fifth as
Caleb Dugan (Lima, Ohio/Lima Senior H.S.) doubled with two outs and Scott followed with a RBI single.
The Racers broke the game open with 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, sending 15 batters to the plate and hitting a pair of home runs.
Lourdes (23-19, 8-10) returns to the diamond on Sunday afternoon, heading to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face Indiana Tech. First pitch of the doubleheader has been moved up to noon at Warrior Baseball Field due to the threat of inclement weather later in the day.
