Lourdes Earns Wednesday Night Draw at Goshen

Lourdes earned its first result of the season on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves battled Goshen to a 1-1 draw at the Goshen Soccer Complex in Goshen, Ind.

The Gray Wolves struck first with 13:10 to play before halftime.  Leandro Bisanzio Pereira (Gutersloh, Germany/Stadtisches Gymnasium Gutersloh) intercepted a Maple Leafs pass at midfield and fed the ball ahead to Anthony Samuel (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago/Chaguanas).  The fifth-year senior dribbled by the defense up field into the penalty area and fired far post for Lourdes' first goal of the season.

The lead remained 1-0 into halftime despite Lourdes holding a 10-2 shot advantage over the opening 45 minutes.

Goshen (0-0-1) evened the match with 14:42 left in the contest.  Ryan Almeida sent a clearing pass over the defense from deep in the Lourdes offensive zone, finding Mathurin Allawai down field and he scored the tying goal.

"Overall we're happy that we had some really good moments," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "It wsa a much better effort than against Georgetown.  We certainly need to improve our fitness level though, along with our ability to hold on to a lead."

The Maple Leafs held a 9-3 edge in shot attempts in the second half, with Lourdes finishing with just a 13-11 advantage by match's end.  Alex Brock (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) made four saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Matias da Fonseca had the same number of saves for Goshen.

Lourdes (0-1-1) will continue its four-match road trip on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Marian.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at St. Vincent Field.
