Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lourdes Falls in Five Sets at Aquinas Saturday

Lourdes wrapped up a three-match road trip on Saturday afternoon, falling in five sets to Aquinas 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 15-8 inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"We put forth a good effort today and played some quality volleyball," head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "We left a few too many points out there and that cost us in the end.  We will look to improve on our next match."

McKenna Hall (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led the way for the Gray Wolves with 15 kills and hit .286 while Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield H.S.) and Quinn Olding (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop H.S.) added eight kills each.

Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) registered 15 digs defensively while Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) had 10 more.  Olding was also in on five blocks.

Lourdes hit .370 in the opening stanza to take the early lead in the match.  Trailing 20-19, the Gray Wolves scored six of the final eight points in the set.  Set two saw the Saints hit .355 to even the match.  Aquinas built and early 12-4 lead and never trailed in the set.

The third frame was tied at 18 when Aquinas closed on a 7-1 run to build a two set to one lead before Lourdes rebounded in the fourth to even the match.  A 12-1 spurt allowed the Gray Wolves to take a 19-7 lead on the way to forcing the decisive fifth set.

In the final set, the two sides were even at eight before Aquinas ran off the final seven points to close out the victory.

Sammy Teachworth led Aquinas (5-10, 2-0 WHAC) with 15 kills while Jennifer Johnson tallied 16 digs.

Lourdes (6-5, 2-2) returns home on Wednesday evening to host Indiana Tech.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
