Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nationally Ranked Northwestern Ohio Tops Lourdes Wednesday

Lourdes had its three-match winning streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves dropped a 3-0 decision to 10th-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Stadium in Lima, Ohio.

"UNOH is a very difficult team to play," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "They are very athletic and relentless, and they put a lot of pressure on the ball and force so many mistakes.  It took us 15-20 minutes to get our legs underneath us, but once we got going, we competed well.  We missed a few chances to level the game in the second half and eventually it got away from us.  Against a team like UNOH you have to be clinical when you get chances, and we were not.  We have a great challenge going to Lawrence Tech on Saturday so we can't dwell too much on this result as we have to be prepared for the next one."

The two sides played a scoreless opening 45 minutes despite a 6-2 shot advantage for the Racers and the hosts holding a 7-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Northwestern Ohio (7-0-2, 2-0 WHAC) found the back of the net in the 57th minutes as Tomas Echevarria played a ball into the box where Gonzalo La Chico got a head on it and scored.  The match stayed a one-goal contest until 6:51 to play when Echevarria sent a through ball to Cameron Power who scored his first goal of the season.

The Racers added one final goal with 5:56 remaining when Power connected again, this time on a penalty kick.

Northwestern Ohio finished the match with a 16-7 shot advantage.  Alex Brock (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) made seven saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Simon Sanchez made four stops for the Racers.

Lourdes (3-5-1, 1-1) remains on the road Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Southfield, Mich. to face Lawrence Tech.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Blue Devils Stadium.
