Huntington Rallies in Second Half to Down Lourdes

Lourdes built a halftime lead but Huntington rallied with two second half goals, including the match-winner with just over eighth minutes to play as the Foresters defeated the Gray Wolves 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at King Stadium in Huntington, Ind.

"We're in a tough moment right now," head coach Matt Johnson said afterwards.  "I thought we did a good job of carrying out the game plan and our effort was quite good.  We're struggling a bit with our confidence in front of goal-both attacking and defending.  We have a couple more nonconference games to try and find a result."

The Gray Wolves took the lead at the 21:51 mark as Diego Pereira (Asuncion, Paraguay/Cristo Rey) picked up a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and fired the ball into the right upper 90 for his first goal of the season, and sixth of his career.

The lead remained just 1-0 heading into the locker room, despite Lourdes holding a 10-2 shot advantage, including a 6-0 edge on net over the opening 45 minutes.

Huntington (3-1) evened the match in the 60th minute.  Paulo Filho feed a pass through the Lourdes defense to Tiago Costa, who scored from the middle of the box, tying the game at one.

The match remained knotted until there was just 8:09 to play when Higor Barbieri dribbled through the box toward the right and slid the ball into the middle of the net.

Lourdes was unable to find the equalizer down the stretch, despite finishing the match with a 17-7 shot advantage.  Pedro Moreira made eight saves between the posts in the win for the Foresters while Yianni Kanellopoulos (Northville, Mich./Northville H.S.) made one stop in goal for the Gray Wolves.

Lourdes (0-4-1) returns home on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Holy Cross (Ind.).  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
