Lourdes bounced back from a loss on Saturday to win its seventh game in its last eight outings on Wednesday evening with a 72-62 victory over Aquinas inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Â
"Played a pretty complete game," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. We played with great energy and we got more balance tonight. I hope we can continue to do that. The zone worked pretty good for us and we did a nice job hold them to 35% shooting."
Â
Four players finished in double figures for the Gray Wolves, led by
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) and
Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) who scored 19 and 18 points respectively.Â
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) came off the bench to add 15 points while
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) tallied 14 more on 6-of-8 shooting.
Â
There were seven ties and seven lead changes over the first 15 minutes before Lourdes took the lead for good, 23-21, on a triple from Harris. The Gray Wolves would end the first half on a 7-2 run to take a 33-26 lead into the locker room.
Â
Back-to-back baskets by Holifield early in the second half pushed the lead to 10, 39-29. The Gray Wolves pushed the lead to as many as 14, only to see the Saints close to within six with two minutes to play. Lourdes made 5-of-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
Â
The Gray Wolves shot 56.3% from the floor to offset 17 turnovers on the evening while limiting Aquinas to just a 35.1% shooting clip.
Â
Gabe Overway led all scorers with 21 points for Aquinas (9-12, 5-9 WHAC) while Donovan Brown-Boyd added 15 more.Â
