Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) scored 36 points on Tuesday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center as Lourdes rang in 2023 with a 114-75 victory over the University of Windsor to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Harris was 8-of-17 from three-point range and 14-of-26 overall while pulling down six rebounds and handing out four assists. Six Gray Wolves finished the game in double figures in the scoring column.
"I thought the guys played free today," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. "We shot the ball well and scored 42 points in the paint. We also forced 26 turnovers with quick hands and active feet which resulted in 41 points."
The Gray Wolves had 20 steals in the contest, including seven by
Sterling Hopkins (Dallas, Texas/JJ Pearce H.S.).
Leading 22-17 with 12:30 to play in the first half, Lourdes scored the next game's next 16 points in less than five minutes to build a 21-point advantage. The Lancers made a run late in the half to close to within 10 before the Gray Wolves took a 50-38 lead into the locker room.
Up by 15 with 17 minutes to play, Lourdes went on an 11-2 spurt before adding another 12-2 run midway through the second half. The Gray Wolves then scored 19 straight points late in the game before Windsor (9-4) scored the game's final basket.
Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) tallied 17 points while adding eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) tallied 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting while
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) also scored 14 points off the bench.
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) chipped in 13 points while
Charles Swain (Cincinnati, Ohio/North College Hill H.S.) added 12 more.
Lourdes shot 54.8% from the floor on the afternoon, including 43.2% (16-of-37) from three-point range.
Thomas Kennedy led Windsor with 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Daniel Cummings added 21 points for the Lancers, as the visitors shot 46.3% from the field, but went just 3-of-24 (12.5%) from three-point range.
Lourdes (11-5) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Rochester (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
