Box Score Lourdes allowed Rochester (Mich.) to erase a 22-point deficit on Saturday afternoon but the Gray Wolves held on to defeat the Warriors 69-66 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
"We lost discipline today," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We are trying to play free, but we still need to be disciplined.  We didn't play consistently and value the basketball in crucial situations."
 
The Gray Wolves started fast, building an early 19-7 lead just eight minutes into the game.  Another 10-2 run later in the half pushed the lead to 22, 40-18, with just under five minutes to play before halftime.  Rochester answered with three three-pointers as part of an 11-1 run late in the period before Lourdes took a 43-29 lead into the break.
 
The Warriors trailed by 10, 48-38, with 15:30 to play before scoring 10 straight points, pulling even on a triple by Anthony Cukaj with 13:33 to play.  Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) stopped the run with a basket inside after Rochester had three chances to take the lead.
 
With Lourdes in front 54-51, Rochester scored the next seven points, building a four-point lead with 8:37 to play.  Five straight points by Lourdes, capped with a lay-in from Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) allowed the Gray Wolves to retake the lead for good with five minutes to play. 
 
Lourdes led by three with two minutes remaining as neither team was able to score down the stretch.  The Warriors had a chance to tie with a three-pointer at the buzzer, but the attempt missed the mark.
 
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) led all scorers with 17 points while Little Anderson (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 16 more to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Harris also had a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards as Lourdes finished with a 46-29 advantage on the glass.
 
Stavros Polatoglou led Rochester (11-5, 6-3 WHAC) with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
 
Lourdes (12-5, 6-3) closes out the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain nationally-ranked Indiana Tech.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
