Lourdes wrapped up its homestand on Saturday evening with a 25-9, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23 victory over Rochester (Mich.) inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"We played just well enough to get the win," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We need to play a little cleaner on Wednesday when we have another important match."
Lourdes came out fast, hitting .375 in the opening set while limiting the Warriors to a -.069 clip with eight errors. A 14-2 run allowed the Gray Wolves to seize control and take the early lead in the match. The roles were reversed in the second set as Rochester held Lourdes to -.100 hitting and just five kills on the way to evening the match. The Warriors jumped out to an 8-3 lead and after Lourdes pulled to within 19-16, the visitors scored the final six points.
The Gray Wolves never trailed in the third, scoring 12 of the first 15 points. The hosts had 13 kills with just one error in the stanza. In the fourth, both teams made runs throughout before a 5-1 spurt late put Lourdes in front for good.
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) led Lourdes with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Jolie Sobb (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) picked up a match-high 19 digs while
Katey Stakolich (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) and
Miyana Dishroon (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) handed out 19 and 15 assists respectively.
Emily Carroll led Rochester (4-22, 1-14 WHAC) with nine kills while Gabby Costello and Ashley Horne had 16 digs each.
Lourdes (3-18, 3-13) heads to Southfield, Mich. on Wednesday evening to battle Lawrence Tech. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Riddler Fieldhouse.
