Lourdes returned to the road on Wednesday evening, dropping a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 decision to Lawrence Tech inside Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich.
"We did not play our best volleyball tonight," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We competed well defensively early in the match and then struggled to maintain that high level."
The Gray Wolves hit just .135 on the evening while Lawrence Tech swung at a .312 clip and the Blue Devils outdug Lourdes 47-40.
Lourdes led early in the first set, maintaining a 12-8 advantage until the hosts scored seven consecutive points to begin a 17-6 run closing the set. Four straight points early in the second stanza put Lawrence Tech in front for good 6-2 as the Blue Devils extended the lead to as many as eight, 19-11, before Lourdes made a late run. A 9-3 spurt by the Blue Devils in the third allowed Lawrene Tech to build a 20-12 advantage. The Gray Wolves fought back to within three, 23-20, but would not get any closer.
Kylee McBride (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) had a team-high seven kills for Lourdes while defensively
Jolie Sobb (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) had 13 digs and
Chelsie Rabbe (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon H.S.) tallied four blocks.
Riley O'Connell had 13 kills for Lawrence Tech (11-9, 9-7 WHAC) while Juliana Bollini picked up 16 digs.
Lourdes (3-19, 3-14) will close out the home portion of its schedule on Friday evening hosting Michigan-Dearborn. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
