Lourdes Men’s Hoops off to Program’s Best Start after Downing Siena Heights

Lourdes improved to a program best 4-0 start on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with an 84-53 victory over Siena Heights inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"Our defense was good tonight and the ability to force 19 turnovers was our biggest key tonight," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "We made them uncomfortable and wore them down.  Our guys' legs seemed to be a lot fresher tonight as well."

Siena Heights held a 16-15 lead 12 minutes into the game and the Saints were within two, 22-20, at the 5:47 mark when Lourdes closed the first half with a 16-0 run to take control of the game.  The Gray Wolves held the Saints to just 33.3% shooting over the opening 20 minutes while forcing 11 first half turnovers.

Lourdes opened the second half with the first four points and outscored Siena Heights 19-4 over the first seven minutes while pushing the lead to 32, 57-25, and never looked back.  The Gray Wolves led by as many as 38 and led by at least 30 for the final 13 minutes of the contest.

Va./Fairborn [Ohio] H.S.) added 18 more on 8-of-13 shooting.  Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) chipped in 14 points and Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) tallied 13 more as Lourdes had four players score in double figures.
