Twenty-fourth ranked Lourdes improved to a program best 5-0 on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves defeated Michigan-Dearborn 96-70 inside the UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
"The key to the last few games is the energy we are playing with," head coach
Dennis Hopson said afterwards. "We are sharing the be ball as well."
The Gray Wolves had five players in double figures in their first regular season road game of the year, led by
Jackie Harris' (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales H.S.) double-double as he scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He also handed out four assists on the afternoon.
Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) added 19 points and three steals while
Stephen Coleman Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/Hillcrest Prep H.S.) tallied 13 points.
Shaunn Monroe (Charleston, W. Va./Fairborn [Ohio] H.S.) and
Jakiel Wells (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales H.S.) each scored 11 points for the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the game's first three minutes, only to see the Wolverines battle back to within two, 15-13, at the 11:37 mark of the first half. The Gray Wolves exploded with a 24-7 run over the next six minutes to push the lead to 19 on the way to a 53-37 advantage at halftime.
Michigan-Dearborn pulled to within 13, 55-42, early in the second before Lourdes scored the next seven points to push the lead to 20 as the Gray Wolves never looked back the rest of the way. Lourdes led by as many as 32 in the second half.
The Gray Wolves shot 48.6% from the floor, including 40% (14-of-35) from three-point range and outrebounded the Wolverines 51-40.
Jackson Reynolds led Michigan-Dearborn (2-3, 0-1 WHAC) with 14 points as the Wolverines shot 35.1% from the floor, including just 4-of-23 (7.1%) from beyond the arc.
Lourdes (5-0, 2-0) returns home on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Ohio Christian. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
