Four Placers Highlight Lourdes Trip to Indiana Little State

Final Results

Lourdes took just eight wrestlers to Indiana Little State on Saturday but four of the eight grapplers earned top-eight finishes in the unscored event held in Fort Wayne, Ind.

"This was a great day of wrestling for us," head coach Dock Kelly III said afterwards.  "I'm so proud of the way that our guys battled through adversity.  To have four place winners is a significant feat, and this is especially encouraging because we still have significant room for improvement."

Will Speight (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) captured the title at 184 pounds going 5-0 on the day.  After opening the day with an 18-3 tech fall, he won a pair of matches by major decision to advance to the semifinals.  In the semis he scored another 17-2 tech fall before notching a 12-5 decision against Aidan Peterson of Indianapolis in the title bout.

"William Speight is a legitimate threat to win a national championship," Kelly added.  He wrestled at an elite level against several nationally-ranked opponents."

Cole McKinley (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) captured third place at 133 pounds.  He tallied back-to-back first period pins to advance to the semifinals before dropping into the consolation bracket.  McKinley bounced back with another fall in just 51 seconds to advance to the third place match where he pinned Noah Cantu of Indianapolis at the 3:23 mark in the second period for his fourth fall of the tournament.

Dru Wilson (Warren, Ohio/Wood-Tower H.S.) posted a fourth place effort at 141 pounds.  He started his day with a pin before scoring a decision and a major decision to advance to the semifinals.  After dropping his semifinal bout, he bounced back with a 13-0 major decision to reach the third place match before falling in a 15-0 tech fall.

Carter Kroll (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario H.S.) placed seventh at 197 pounds.  He opened the day with a fall and added another pin in the consolation round before scoring a 12-2 major decision in the seventh place match.

At 165 pounds, Derrick Coleman (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde H.S.) won his opening bout in an 18-1 tech fall before dropping his next two matches.  Niko Christo (Galion, Ohio/Northmor H.S.) earned a win on the day at 174 with a fall late in the second period of his second match while Tyler Cobb (Toledo, Ohio/Clay H.S.) also had a pin in the tournament, late in the first period of his second match of the day at 285 pounds.

Lourdes will close out action for the first semester next Sunday, Dec. 10, as the Gray Wolves take part in the Lindsey Wilson Duals.  Pairings have yet to be determined, with action beginning at 10 a.m. EST in Columbia, Ky.
