Concordia (Mich.) rallied from an eight-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to defeat Lourdes 63-54 on Wednesday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Trailing by four at halftime, the Cardinals made a three on the opening possession of the third quarter to build a seven-point advantage. Lourdes then went on a 9-1 run to pull in front with six minutes to play in the stanza on a basket inside by
Halle Barnett (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.).
After Concordia scored the next five points, Lourdes closed the quarter on a 15-3 run to take a 49-41 lead heading into the final stanza. The Cardinals scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter, holding Lourdes off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes.
Macie Stringfellow (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) tied the game at 54 with a three-pointer with just over four minutes remaining in the game, but that would be Lourdes lone field goal in the period. The Cardinals would score the final nine points of the game to pull out the victory.
Lourdes jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the game's first three minutes before Concordia scored seven straight points later in the period. The Cardinal lead grew to 10, 26-16, with five minutes left in the opening half before the Gray Wolves went on a 9-1 run and pulled within four, 29-25, heading into the locker room.
Shae Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 14 points while
Emma Pedroza (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) added 13 more. Stringfellow finished with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Taylor Leatherman led Concordia (14-9, 10-5 WHAC) with 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench while Zaria Mitchner added 12 points and five steals in a reserve role.
Lourdes (7-16, 4-11) takes to the road on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Rochester Hills, Mich. to battle Rochester (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside Garth Pleasant Arena.
