Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lourdes Reaches 20-Win Plateau with Senior Day Victory

For the second consecutive season Lourdes has won 20 games after the Gray Wolves defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio 78-68 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center to celebrate Senior Day.

Lourdes has now won 20 or more games three times in the last four seasons and four times in program history.

"A win is a win," head coach Dennis Hopson said afterwards.  "I was not excited about our defense and our energy was bad today.  Had we not gone to the free throw line 21 times and made 17 we may not have won."

Leading 23-21 with under seven minutes to play until halftime, Lourdes scored the game's next 12 points in less than four minutes on the way to building a 39-30 lead at the break.

Back-to-back three-pointers early in the second half were part of an 8-1 Racers run that pulled the visitors to within four at the 15:38 mark.  UNOH made it a one-point game, 47-46, less than a minute later and had two opportunities to take the lead.  The Gray Wolves made the Racers come up empty and went on a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to push the lead back to double figures.  Northwestern Ohio was never able to get closer than six the rest of the way.

Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Joey Holifield (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) also added 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.  Jackie Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) added 16 points and nine boards as the Gray Wolves finished with a 44-28 edge on the glass.

Hunter Bode led Northwestern Ohio (10-16, 6-12 WHAC) with 17 points while Biggz Johnson added 12 more.

Lourdes (20-6, 14-4) heads to the road to close out the regular season beginning on Wednesday evening with a trip to Southfield, Mich. to battle Lawrence Tech.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Ridler Fieldhouse.
