For the second consecutive evening 10
th-ranked Lourdes defeated Goshen, this time inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center as the Gray Wolves scored a 27-25, 25-21, 25-21 of the Maple Leafs.
"We played a better match today than yesterday," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We were much more efficient hitting and smarter with our set distribution."
The Gray Wolves raced out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set, and still maintained a 20-17 lead, when the Maple Leafs battled back. The visitors tied the set and 22 and had a set point up 25-24 before the Gray Wolves scored three straight to win.
In set two, Lourdes hit a blistering .519 offensively. Trailing 16-14, the Gray Wolves scored the next six points to take control on the way to building a 2-0 lead in the match.
Goshen took a quick 8-3 lead in the third and maintained the advantage, leading 19-15.
Vinicius Lopes (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Osvaldo Carvalho) served up an 8-0 run as the Gray Wolves limited the Maple Leafs to a -.077 hitting mark in the final set to complete the sweep.
Eduardo Ayala (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) led the Lourdes offense hitting .571 with 19 kills on the night.
George Tsogtbaatar (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling H.S.) handed out 42 assists while directing an offense that hit .344 as a team on the night.
Defensively,
Gabriel Vianna (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio do Instituto Padre Machado) had a match-high 12 digs while
Reshawn Allen (Montgomery, Ill./Oswego H.S.) registered three blocks.
Hasan Hadzic led Goshen (4-8, 3-7 WHAC) with 17 kills.
Lourdes (10-4, 7-1) continues its four-match homestand on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
