Lourdes had its eight-match Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference winning streak snapped on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves fell 24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 28-26 inside Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield, Mich.

Trailing 14-7 in the opening set, the Gray Wolves stormed back to win and take an early lead in the match. Lourdes then built a 10-6 lead in set two before the Blue Devils responded with a 7-1 run to pull in front for good and even the match at a set apiece.

Five straight points by Lawrence Tech early in the third set gave the hosts a 12-7 lead, an advantage the Blue Devils would not relinquish the remainder of the set. In the fourth, there were 16 ties and seven lead changes. Lourdes fought off three set points and had one of its own before the host scored the final three points to secure the win.

Vinicius Lopes (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Osvaldo Carvalho) put down a team-high 16 kills and hit .355 for the Gray Wolves while
Jaber Badarne (Arrabe, Israel/Hof Hasharon) added 14 kills.Â
Sawyer Schafer (Monroeville, Ohio/Monroeville H.S.) picked up 14 digs.

Jeffry Fuhrmann led Lawrence Tech (15-7, 9-5 WHAC) with 15 kills while Akram Askoul added 10 more. Gustavo Heidrich picked up 13 digs for the Blue Devils, which defeated the Gray Wolves for the first time in program history in 17 tries.

"This was a tough match for us," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We will have to regroup and put forth a better effort tomorrow."

Lourdes (15-6, 12-2) returns to the court on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Adrian, Mich. to face Siena Heights. The first serve is set for 1 p.m. inside SHU Fieldhouse.
